Manage Up Coaching

Leading in 360°

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right...

No, I'm not talking about the Konami code for Nintendo (if you know, you know).

I'm talking about powerful leadership!

Leaders who master managing up, down, left, and right have a tremendous impact and influence on their organizations. It's a rare combination, but a skillset that pays dividends for years.

I've noticed that people tend to "show up" differently with their boss than with their peers or folks below their level.

Why is that?

Well, it's all rooted in our beliefs and conditioning – and understandably so.

How we perceive any kind of hierarchy is likely the result of our conditioning. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.

But what would it be like if you consistently showed up regardless of who you're collaborating with?

What if you presented the ideal version of yourself *consistently* everywhere you go?

Leaders who have developed this ability stand out from the crowd.

They're inspiring.

They're motivating.

They're people we want to work with!

And you have everything you need to be that kind of leader — someone who can manage in 360°.

The first step is to be aware of how you show up with others at the moment.

If it varies based on their level, simply ask yourself, "where did I learn to show up in this way?"

Understanding what got you here helps shape where you want to go.

And that's the second part of this equation; these three questions:

  1. If you were the ideal version of yourself as a leader, who would you be?
  2. What would that look like?
  3. And what would change if you consistently showed up that way regardless of who you're interacting with?
Start there, and you'll be amazed at the positive influence you'll broadcast to everyone who connects with you, including your boss!
